NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department was on the scene Wednesday afternoon of a shooting just outside of Canal Place that ended with a crash and wounded victim.

According to the NOPD, officers responded just after 1:45 p.m. to the 300 block of Canal Street where they found a 19-year-old man suffering from a wound to the hand as well as a graze wound to his forehead. A recount of the incident states the victim was driving past the shopping center in a green Dodge Challenger when the shooting occurred.

Witnesses in a white Mercedes say they heard several pops but thought it was the Challengers’ exhaust. They then saw the victim exit his car after being hit but as he got out the vehicle continued to roll until it crashed into the Mercedes in the Canal Place parking lot.

“No I will not come back, and I don’t think my parent will let me come back either, which sucks. This is why I want to leave this city honestly. The person next to us they were visiting from Kentucky and this happened to them and I feel bad. I never knew in all my years living here, this would happen to me,” said witness Yasmeen Husein.

The victim is said to be in good condition at a local hospital. The NOPD is in the process of gathering evidence and information to determine a possible suspect and motive.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact NOPD First District Detectives at 504-658-6010.
