NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a crash in New Orleans East on Wednesday, August 2 that left a woman dead.

Officers say they were made aware of a crash at 6 a.m. between the Bullard Avenue and Read Boulevard westbound exits.

An initial investigation revealed a woman’s Nissan Sentra ran off the road and collided with a metal cable barrier on the side of the interstate. Officers say her vehicle then flipped and she was ejected.

Traffic in the area has been slowed down but all lanes remain open.

No further details are available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity and cause of death after an autopsy is done and the family is notified.
