NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man is dead after a shooting in Central City, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Officers were called to the corner of Rev. John Raphael Jr. Way and Martin Luther King Boulevard just after 11:30 a.m., on reports of a man shot in the area. When they arrived, 18-year-old Ricky Smith, was found inside a vehicle suffering from several gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. Investigations revealed Smith was sitting in the vehicle when an unknown suspect drove up, opened fire and drove off.

No further details are available at this time but the NOPD is in the process of gathering evidence and information in order to determine a possible suspect and motive.
