NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department held a press conference Tuesday asking if anyone has information on a Plum Orchard homicide to step forward.

Just after midnight on Jan. 17, A shooting happened in the 4400 block of Reynes Street, wounding and killing 30-year-old Janis Galis, according to NOPD Homicide Unit Capt. Kevin Burns.

“What we know now is that Mr. Galis was here in New Orleans visiting from Europe for the past several months,” said Capt. Burns. ” We are in the process of trying to locate family members, friends, associates or anyone that recognizes Mr. Janis, to help us piece together a sequence of events leading up to his murder.”

Business owners and neighbors in the community, who either heard or saw something, are asked to come forward with any possible leads helpful to the investigation. Capt. Burns says an individual was driving in the area just after the crime and saw Galis lying on the ground suffering from several gunshot wounds.

EMS arrived to render treatment but later pronounced him dead on the scene. So far there have been no tips given in the case but a $2,500 reward is being offered for any information that can lead to an arrest.
