MANDEVILLE, La. (WGNO) — Just because Fat Tuesday is now in the rear-view mirror, it doesn’t mean that the Mardi Gras fun is over.
Especially not on the Northshore. WGNO’s Kenny Lopez previews the upcoming Krewe Du Pooch parade and costume contest in Mandeville.
If you love pups, Mandeville’s Krewe Du Pooch puts the pups on parade.
“Krewe Du Pooch is a dog parade and costume contest and it benefits animal rescue organizations,” Andre Judice, Co-founder of Krewe Du Pooch said.
Nearly 100 dogs will take part in the parade, which helps animal rescue groups.
“Ultimately, this helps rescue organizations because they are able to get exposure to community, so they can get more of their dogs adopted out in the community and it brings financial resources to them as well,” Judice said.
This year’s “Puppy Love” themed parade is showing extra love to a special St. Tammany Parish deputy, Mary Mayo.
“This year’s ‘Grand Marshal’ is a dog named ‘Willa’ and she was a service dog for a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Deputy who was injured in the line of duty. The deputy passed away last year, so the dog is marching to honor her previous service,” Judice said.
This year’s king is a 4-year-old English bulldog named “Tchoupitoulas.” This year’s queen is an almost 2-year-old French bulldog named “Presleigh.”
Krewe Du Pooch was originally scheduled for this weekend, but because of potential rain it’s been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 24 at 12 p.m.
