ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — In a recent report from the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, Dr. Christopher Tape has found that accidental overdose incidents have decreased.
Tape says the current numbers are an early analysis of the first half of 2024.
According to those numbers, as of June 14, there have been a total of 36 accidental overdoses in the parish. This number shows the parish is down 21.7% from the 46 seen the same time in 2023.
The people range in age from 19 to 73. Fentanyl, methamphetamines or a mix of both are the most common fatal toxins being ingested, according to Tape.
“Any needless death is tragic, not only for the deceased but for families and entire communities,” said St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Christopher Tape.
