INDEPENDENCE, La. (WGNO) — Being in the broadcasting business, there’s one class they teach that really hits close to home. The TV production class at TPSS Advanced College and Career Magnet Center is teaching the next generation of young talent.
With cameras, lights, an audio board and lots of student interaction, this TV and Film Production class at TPSS Magnet Center is full of action.
“When the camera stuff came in, we automatically started learning about camera shots,” said TV and Film Production Instructor Tara Barbe.
Barbe went on to say, “The first thing we really want to do is get them excited about broadcast.”
Barbe is the teacher lighting the way for these bright minds.
To help these students on their broadcasting career path, WGNO even donated an anchor desk, which is proving to be a bright spot in their studies.
“The kids absolutely love it. Literally, their eyes lit up when they saw it,” she said.
“We like working with the lights and the screen in front of it. We like to change the lights. It makes me feel like we are doing the real thing,” said student Clarniesha Morris.
It’s no breaking news that getting real-life experience in this school setting will help.
“Just knowing that this is a possibility. Before it was a dream, and now, getting the knowledge and education, it makes me feel like this could be a reality,” Morris said.
“This is something they will hold onto for the rest of their lives,” Barbe said.
Because of this training, these students’ futures will be bright, just like the bright studio lights!
