NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The U.S. Coast Guard and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office rescued two stranded boaters near Lake Pontchartrain on Friday, March 22.

Leaders with the Coast Guard Sector New Orleans said they received notification around 6:30 a.m. of two people last reported aboard an 18-foot black flat bottom bat in the Lake Pontchartrain area who hadn’t returned.

The Coast Guard sent a Jayhawk helicopter crew and a response boat crew for the search.

The helicopter crew found the two boaters and their disabled boat. Both the TPSO and the Coast Guard’s boat crews arrived on the scene.

A rescue swimmer was deployed to assist and the two were safely transported back to shore.
