Warrant, ticket scam resurfaces in Tangipahoa Parish

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The Tangipahoa Parish Sherriff’s Office is warning residents about a warrant and ticket scam that has resurfaced in the area.

According to the TPSO, the scam first occurred back in June 2023. A scammer was using the names of members within the department.

Now, TPSO deputies said residents have made complaints about a scammer pretending to be members of the TPSO, asking them to pay for outstanding warrants or tickets over the phone.

Members of the TPSO said the caller identified themselves as a lieutenant with the sheriff’s office, and informed residents that they had outstanding warrants that could either be paid in person at the substation or at Albertsons.

The TPSO reminds residents that the sheriff’s office will never seek payment over the phone or through a kiosk.
