Day of doppelgängers as first ‘Twin Fest’ kicks off in Houma

HOUMA, La. (WGNO) — It’s a day you are likely to see double, triple or even quadruple the trouble with Twin Fest in Houma.

“Happy Twin Fest!”

The first, to be exact, for Louisiana, thanks to everybody’s favorite twins, Cherry and Sherry Wilmore. Both admit it’s surreal to think that after all their hard work, the turnout was amazing.

“We are immensely excited and forever grateful. It’s not a success with the people and this is a people-centered event because it’s a twin fest, so people are needed,” said Sherry Wilmore, organizer of Twin Fest Louisiana.

While many hit the dance floor, others spent time shopping with vendors. One set of twins hope this becomes a staple.

“For the down south area, it’s a real big thing because we don’t have that. There is a whole lot of twins, triplets, and quadruplets, all down south that doesn’t get a chance to go to Twin Fest Ohio,” said Tamiara Weber.

From train rides to petting zoos, or even fun in the bubbles there were different activities for the kids to enjoy. Some twins say there are perks to having someone look just like you.

“I like that we get to cuddle every day,” said Kandence.

“Being in two places at one time that’s the best thing,” said Laquann Wimberly.

“Wish we had a third, we really need a triplet,” said Lamon Wimberly.

But there’s always some friendly competition.

“It’s fun to see the dynamics of the younger twins being bossed around by the older twins,” said Marcus Green.

“Older twins have these self-esteem issues that I can’t address but it’s up to them. This was a good time, a good idea,” said Myron Green.

The best part of it all is all funds will be going back to local charities.

“Cherish is our non-profit because we grew up in the Louisiana foster care system and so it is our giver back to that population. We know what it’s like and so to whom much is given much is required and that was instilled in us and so it’s our time to pay it forward, ” said Cherry Wilmore, organizer of Twin Fest Louisiana.

Saying this won’t be the last twin fest in the south.

“Catch us on April 5, 2025,” said the Wilmore’s.
