VIDEO: Five people arrested during protest after attempting to march onto HWY 90

GRETNA, LA – On Tuesday, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reported that today’s protests resulted in five arrests.

Two Sheriff’s Office supervisors were punched in the face by non-peaceful protesters.

One supervisor received medical care at the hospital and was ultimately released after treatment. The other supervisor received in-house medical treatment.

The protest lasted several hours, with marching protesters disrupting afternoon traffic on the lower-level Westbank Expressway.

When protesters ultimately attempted to unlawfully march onto the elevated expressway, they were denied access by deputies.

Sheriff Lopinto applauds those who peacefully exercised their right to protest.

The following individuals were arrested by the Sheriff’s Office:

As deputies were attempting to arrest Kumar-Montei, Nathaniel Smith and Bridget White both struck deputies in the face before fleeing the area. As the day progressed, Smith and White were both positively identified.

While the protest was dispersing, Smith was located in the 1200 block of the Westbank Expressway. As deputies attempted to arrest him, Nathan Durapau grabbed a deputy and tried pushing him away from Smith in an attempt to help him evade capture. Durapau was also arrested, and continued to fight with the arresting deputies, including kicking one in the groin as he was being transported to a booking facility.

White was located in the 1000 block of Manhattan Boulevard as she attempted to leave the area in a vehicle driven by Winins. When stopped, White and Winins refused to exit their vehicle despite several commands by investigators to do so. Both subjects were arrested accordingly.

All have been transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for booking.
