NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Acadian Ambulance is hiring, and the company is offering training for potential first responders. No medical background is required, and the training is paid.
More Acadian Ambulances are being seen on the streets than any other unit because they are the largest in the country. They have an “excellent” EMT training program starting on July 15.
“It’s going to be a seven-week program. What we’re offering right now is an accelerated program where they go through an interview process. We actually hire them as a full-time employee and pay them to go to class for seven weeks. Monday through Friday, eight-hour days with benefits,” said Donnie Lirette with Acadian Companies.
Lirette is a recruiter with Acadian and when asked whether it was important for recruiters to have a medical background to do the work, he said absolutely not.
“We’re looking for people who want to start a new career, and we offer those opportunities. We go all the way from a first responder all the way up to paramedic training. So we offer a really good career with a great retirement plan,” said Lirette.
The company was recently in the news following the death of its founder, Richard Zuschlag. The retirement plan Lirette speaks about is one he is credited with setting up years ago.
