Juvenile celebrates 25th anniversary of ‘Back That Thang Up’ video release

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — June 11 has been considered a special day after New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell recognized the 25th anniversary of the release of the well known music video to the song “Back That Thang Up” by Juvenile.

Juvenile, also known as Juvie The Great, stopped by the WGNO studio to tell LBJ how he felt about the honor.

“It’s crazy, right? And I can’t even explain it. The thought process is crazy,” said Juvenile.

Cantrell pointed out that the song, released in 1999, is ” legendary and remarkable” and is also the most-played wedding song in America.

“It’s the closer. That’s when you find out what kind of moves Auntie got. That’s how you ingratiate each other together,” said Juvenile.

The proclamation reads “‘Back that Thang Up,’ produced by the legendary Mannie Fresh and featuring the esteemed Lil Wayne, has transcended its roots to become a cultural phenomenon, celebrated for its infectious beat and memorable lyrics that continue to resonate with generations.”

When asked if he thought a resurgence of his work and appreciation of what they had done would happen, he said he didn’t see it coming.

“My blessings come in droves and I think it’s just my faith and sticking with my family and just keep beating my feet to the street. It came back, I didn’t see it coming,” Juvenile.

Juvenile is currently on tour with the 400 Degreez Band and will be performing in California, Texas, The Big Eazy and even Canada. He says they are also making an appearance at the 30th Annual Essence Festival happening from July 4 to July 7.

Joining him will be other Louisiana artists including Lil Boosie, Big Freedia and more.
