NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — With only days left before the summer break is over, Dr. Avis Williams stopped by the Good Morning New Orleans show to talk about the new academic year.
Williams just completed her first full year in the post of Superintendent of NOLA Public Schools and she commended the community for offering input to help the district better serve families and scholars.
Williams also addressed a new focus on mental health for students.
“So, basically, with ‘Thrive Kids,’ we are able to provide school-based mental health support. The thing I love about it is, it’s also wraparound services. So, if dad needs to have his blood pressure checked or sister needs glasses, with our ‘Thrive Kids’ partnership we are able to connect all of those resources and services for our families and provide what the students need right at the school,” said Williams.
The project earned a $10 million investment from Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s administration.
