(KTLA) – One of the most prominent Democrats in Southern California has called on President Joe Biden to drop his re-election campaign.
In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) said he has “serious concerns” about Biden’s ability to defeat former President Donald Trump in the November election.
“There is only one singular goal: defeating Donald Trump,” he said. “The stakes are just too high.”
Schiff is currently running for U.S. Senate against former baseball star Steve Garvey, but during his time in the House of Representatives, he was one of Trump’s foremost opponents, serving as an impeachment manager and prompting Trump to call him “Slimeball Adam ‘Shifty’ Schiff,” among other nicknames.
Schiff lauded Biden as “one of the most consequential presidents in our nation’s history, and his lifetime of service as a Senator, a Vice President, and now as President has made our country better.”
“But our nation is at a crossroads,” he said. “A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November.”
