(CNN) — The race for the Louisiana U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu will go to a two-candidate runoff next month, according to a CNN projection.
Neither Landrieu nor Republican Bill Cassidy is expected to clear the 50% of the vote needed to win outright on Tuesday.
The runoff means Senate control might not be decided Tuesday night.
If confirmed, the runoff would be held on Dec. 6.
