Roe vs. Wade one year later in Louisiana, What can voters do about the abortion ban?

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — It has officially been a year since the supreme court Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade and allowed states to ban abortion.

The Louisiana Right to Life said the decision makes Louisiana a safer place for moms and babies.

Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast Director of Public Affairs Helen Frink said when patients come into the clinic, there’s still a lot of uncertainty.

“They don’t know what they can and can’t do. It’s a lot of unsureness from healthcare systems and doctors about what is permitted and what is not, which then trickles down to patients. So, again what you hear from patients, they kind of don’t know what to do. It’s a very scary position to be in,” Frink said.

Frink believes with the ruling, Louisianians have a voice now more than ever. She adds it is also important to start paying attention to candidates for state positions.

The Louisiana Right to Life released a statement celebrating the anniversary. The statement said, “We celebrate the momentous victory for life that occurred one year ago today on June 24, 2022. We are thankful that approximately 7,012 babies have been legally protected from abortion and that all three Louisiana abortion facilities have closed their doors. Louisiana is now a much safer place for moms and babies. Louisiana Right to Life will continue to help mothers, protect life, and support adoption across Louisiana. Through education and service, we also will continue promoting the work of pregnancy resource centers and resources like FindHelpLa.com.”
