Louisiana Senate rejects LGBT anti-discrimination hiring bill

BATON ROUGE (WGNO) – The state Senate scrapped an anti-discrimination bill aimed at protecting members of the LGBT community in Louisiana.

SB436 would have banned employment discrimination, like hiring, firing and compensation based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The bill failed on an 8-25 vote.

The Advertiser reports that none of the opposed spoke or asked questions before voting on the bill.

Governor John Bel Edwards signed a similar order in April which applied to state workers and contractors. That order takes effect July 1.
