NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Mitt Romney offered his condolences for slain Tulane University graduate Thomas Rolfes.
Rolfes worked for Romney’s 2012 campaign, Romney wrote on his Facebook page Monday.
Heartbreaking to hear that Thomas Rolfes was killed this weekend while in New Orleans looking for a wedding venue with his sweetheart, a fellow Tulane graduate.
A senseless and tragic loss. Thomas was a highly valued member of our 2012 campaign team. His warm smile and engaging personality lifted our spirits. His commitment and dedication to our effort made him an invaluable part of the campaign.
Ann and I send our love and prayers to his family and fiancée.
Officers discovered Rolfes’ body on Amelia Street near South Claiborne Avenue Saturday morning.
Investigators believe robbery is the motive for the killing, New Orleans Police Chief Michale Harrison told reporters at a Monday afternoon press conference.
He said injuries to Rolfes’ hands indicate that there may have been a struggle. Rolfes’ wallet was missing when his body was found.
Investigators are still developing a timeline of where Rolfes was that night, where we went, who he was with, and other key details, Harrison said.
No suspect or suspects have been identified yet.
Rolfes was in New Orleans with his fiancee to pick out a wedding venue.
