ST. TAMMANY PARISH (WGNO) – St. Bernard Parish President Dave Peralta was indicted Wednesday afternoon on a charge of stalking his ex-wife, following a three-hour presentation to a grand jury.
This is not the first time Peralta’s ex-wife, Sharon Schaefer, accused the parish president of crimes. Last October, Louisiana State Police investigated claims that Peralta raped Schaefe. He said the sex was consensual. And Schaefe later dropped the charge.
In January, Schaefe also accused Peralta of violating a restraining order, intended to keep him away from her.
“Everything. This has consumed my life, everything that he’s done to me. It has consumed me so far. And I need to get on with my life, and I can’t do it until everything is settled,” Schaefer told WGNO. “Like I said, I’m glad. I’m thankful for the indictment they came back with.”
Peralta’s bond has been set at $35,000.
An arrest warrant will be issued Monday morning. Peralta is expected to surrender to the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office at 9:00 a.m. Monday.
