New Orleans police officer Daryle Holloway lost his life in the line of duty and tonight the community is stepping up to help raise money for the loved ones he left behind.

“He was an officer of the community so I figured what better way to give a fundraiser that brings the community together with kids and families. Food music and fun was my theme for it,” Brian Pollard, Daryle’s friend and co-worker said.

Musicians contributed their talents and local restaurants donated everything from red beans and rice to fried chicken.

It’s a positive gathering intended to raise money to support Holloway’s three children.

“I am grateful, we are grateful because the community has really come together to honor Daryle,” Nicole Holloway, Daryle’s ex-wife said.

Holloway served 22 years on the force patrolling the fifth district. His easy-going nature, friendly demeanor and all around likability won’t soon be forgotten.

“In times like these, it’s time for everybody to come together and show that love and appreciation, especially for our New Orleans Police Department. This is the opportunity for just regular folks to say, ‘Hey, I want to do something,” community supporter Julius Feltus said.

If you’d like to contribute to the Holloway family you can make a donation to the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation.
