The Louisiana State Police says that early Saturday morning at approximately 12:45 A.M troopers investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on La. 38 near Franklinton in Washington Parish.

The crash claimed the life of 54-year-old Roderick G. Mabon of Franklinton.

Troopers say that the preliminary investigation revealed that Mabon was operating a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 westbound on La. 38 east of Old Columbia Road.

Mabon, for reasons under investigation, veered right, traveled off of the roadway, entered a ditch, traveled approximately 250 feet, and struck a tree.

Mr. Mabon was not restrained and received fatal injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is not suspected; however, a blood sample was collected from Mabon so toxicological analysis can be performed at the LSP Crime Lab.

Those results are pending and this crash remains under investigation.
