NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The NOPD arrested a teenager found loitering in New Orleans East carrying a stolen handgun.

Seventh District officers responded to a report of school-aged children loitering in front of a house in the 10000 block of Lake Forest Boulevard around 10 o’clock this morning, according to a statement by the NOPD.

During a search, an officer found what he believed to be a handgun in 17-year-old Tevin Arbuthnot’s jacket pocket.

Arbuthnot fled during the patdown, heading south down Read Boulevard, where he was caught less than one block away, according to the NOPD.

Officers determined that the gun in Arbuthnot’s possession had been reported stolen from Lafourche Parish.

Arbuthnot was arrested and booked into Central Lockup on charges of illegal carrying of a handgun and possession of a stolen handgun.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Seventh District detectives at (504) 658-6070.
