THIBODAUX, La (WGNO) – Police in Lafourche Parish arrested a Thibodaux High School student after discovering the teen had a gun in his car.

On the morning of Wednesday, November 16, a school resource officer was notified that Brennan Garman, a 17-year-old Thibodaux high student, had a gun in his car.

The officer and a school administrator escorted Garman to his car, which was parked on campus, where a 9mm handgun was stored in the center console, according to a report by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Garman said he had the gun in his car for self-defence and that he did not intend to use the gun at school.

He was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Carrying a Firearm by a Student at School.

Garman was released late Wednesday night after posting $1,000 bond.
