Toddler shot in face in Baton Rouge; mother facing charges

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A Baton Rouge woman is facing charges after her 1-year-old child was shot in the face in a parked car.

WBRZ reports 23-year-old Crystal Kinchen faces charges of second degree cruelty to juveniles.

Kinchen was in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store on North Foster Drive when one of her two children accidentally discharged a handgun stashed between the driver’s seat and center console. The 1-year-old was shot in the face.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on November 15.

The injured child was rushed to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and is said to be in serious condition, according to WBRZ.
