ICYMI: Gov. Edwards, LA DOTD announces new infrastructure projects for the state

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD)- Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards announced the state’s plan for the $216 million handed down from the federal government for road and infrastructure projects Monday.

Congress allocated $155 million in December to be used at the state’s discretion. That includes $30 million for bridges, $20 million for the state’s larger metro areas, and $11 million to set up a charging network for electric vehicles. That money won’t just go to Louisiana’s big cities. $2.9 million will be used to preserve roads in East Feliciana Parish, $1.5 million in Pointe Coupee Parish, and more than $3 million in Livingston Parish. Officials with the Department of Transportation and Development say these dollars are like an infrastructure stimulus, making up for lost revenue due to the pandemic.

These projects were hand-picked by DOTD. They were selected because of the needs already identified through analysis, legislative, and public input. Governor Edwards hopes this extra funding will help Louisiana thrive.

“We’re going to continue in Louisiana to make transportation a priority, and ensure our motorists have the infrastructure they need to access goods and services and their traveling needs and to do that safely,” Edwards said.

Projects receiving funds are:

Preservation

Major Investment

Direct Category Expenditure

District Priorities
