HARAHAN, La. (WGNO) — It is a cookie craze that is sweeping Europe, and now, it is in New Orleans.
You’ve got cookie dough and you’ve got the croissant, put them together and what do you get?
“We call it a crookie, a croissant cookie,” said Co-owner of NoLa Cookie Co. Neil Dobard.
Like the cookie and the croissant, husband-and-wife team Brittney Hawkins Dobard and Neil Dobard are making a real crookie connection.
“The flakiness of the croissant, the gooeyness of the chocolate chip cookie is unmatched,” Brittney said.
Brittney and Neil are the owners of Nola Cookie Co., which started in 2019. They have 27 different cookie flavors. Recently, Brittney got the idea to create the crookie after seeing how popular it became in France.
“I was scrolling on social media, and there was a bakery in Paris, and they had a line down the street all for a croissant cookie,” she said.
She went on to say, “Of course we have a huge French influence here.”
But they are doing it the New Orleans way.
“We stuff it like a po-boy, and we can even drizzle it with chocolate or praline sauce,” she said.
Once the cookie dough is put into the croissant, the crookie is placed in the oven for 16 minutes, and then once it cools down, you can eat it.
“This is my favorite part, the tasting,” Neil said.
The owners said the best way to get their crookies is to order them online on the NoLa Cookie Co. website.
