Where to get beignets in Greater New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Nothing quite satisfies a sweet tooth like a hot, fluffy beignet.

The New Orleans dessert can be spotted at cafes around the city and in movies like “The Princess and the Frog.”

Whether you’re a tourist stopping in for a fun time, a local looking to expand your palate or someone who just wants a sweet treat, WGNO put together a list of places serving up beignets in the Greater New Orleans area.

Cafe Du Monde

A popular tourist spot known for its beignets and coffee, this local cafe got its start as a coffee stand in the New Orleans French Market in 1862, according to its website. Now, the New Orleans favorite can be found across the city with a menu bearing beignets, cafe au lait, coffee and chicory and more.

Morning Call

Another popular beignet spot is Morning Call. According to its website, the popular beignet place was founded by Joseph Jurisich in the French Quarter in 1870. In addition to beignets, Morning Call also offers traditional French drip coffee.

Cafe Beignet

Cafe Beignet has four locations across New Orleans and offers breakfast, classic Louisiana dishes like red beans, jambalaya and gumbo and specialty sandwiches in addition to beignets, according to its website.

New Orleans Coffee & Beignet Co.

This Tchoupitoulas Street coffee shop is located at the Renaissance New Orleans Arts Warehouse District Hotel and claims to be the “Home of the Original Beignet Bites and Original Chocolate Beignet,” according to its social media.

Hot Benny’s Beignets

Located on Canal Street, Hot Benny’s Beignets is serving up fresh beignets, coffee and “Nola vibes,” according to its Instagram page.

Loretta’s Authentic Pralines

Known for its pralines, Lorretta’s Authentic Pralines also serves a selection of beignets, including praline beignets and crab beignets. According to the Lorretta’s Authentic Pralines website, “Loretta was the first African American woman to successfully own and operate her own praline company in New Orleans.”

Monday Restaurant + Bar

This New Orleans restaurant serves up brunch, lunch and dinner and is home to the Keith Lee-approved sweet potato beignet.

The Vintage

This New Orleans restaurant is known for its coffee, beignets, wines, bubbles and bites. In addition to traditional beignets, The Vintage offers beignet bites and a selection of “fancy beignets.”

Ruby Slipper

This breakfast and brunch spot has several locations across the Greater New Orleans area with sweet and savory options, as well as cocktails. Ruby Slipper has a seasonal rotation of beignets, with this year’s spring beignet flavor being lemon lavender. According to a news release, the lemon lavender beignet is a beignet with lavender cheesecake, lemon curd, whipped cream, purple sugar crystals and powdered sugar.

Uptown Coffee NOLA

Legacy Kitchen’s Craft Tavern

Legacy Kitchen’s Craft Tavern offers up brunch and “refined American fare” with sweet and savory beignet options. The menu includes traditional beignets, beignet bites, crawfish and egg beignets and crawfish beignet bites.

Debbie on the Levee

This New Orleans bar known for its cocktails and sweet treats was originally designed to be the “home base” for Debbie Does Doberge. Bakery Bar offers beignets along its lineup of snacks, shareables, entrees, desserts and cocktails.

Copper Vine

This New Orleans wine bar offers traditional and crawfish beignets in addition to brunch, lunch and dinner options, as well as 30 different wines and eight beers on tap, according to the Copper Vine website.

Luzianne Cafe
