Tyrann Mathieu returns to LSU

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – When he was introduced in the first quarter at Tiger Stadium, the LSU faithful roared. Tyrann Mathieu was back, and he said whatever happens next, can’t equal what happened here.

“Probably the most fun I ever had or ever will have,” says Mathieu.

In 2011, Mathieu led LSU to an unbeaten regular season.  His 92-yard punt return for a touchdown against Arkansas was the play of the season. He said coming back, he couldn’t help but think about that.

“Initially when I stepped on the field, I thought about the punt return against Arkansas. That felt like it was one of the biggest plays of my career. It put us in a position to play for the SEC championship. I remember I could feel the fans. I could feel in my cleats. It was just an amazing feeling,” said Mathieu.

Mathieu was dismissed from school in 2012 and has battled knee and thumb injuries in his first two years in the NFL.  Sunday his Arizona Cardinals host the Saints, and Mathieu said he’s looking forward to playing, healthy.

“It has been awhile. They should be worried this year,” says Mathieu.
