NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Chevy Ramos is one of the promising students in the opportunity scholarship program, sponsored by the Conrad Hilton foundation. Students, 16 to 24 years old, can earn a two-year degree or certificate. Liza Sherman directs the program.
“We fund tuition for the two year program and certificate program, if they don’t have pell funding. We will pay tuition, and they have a mentor assigned to them,” Sherman said.
Ramos has already been promoted to a Marriott Bonvoy Liason. His career goals are lofty.
“My goal is to progress in hospitality to supervisor, manager, director of front office. I plan on getting up there pretty soon,” Ramos added.
Sherman says the support network on the way to a two year associates degree in hospitality management is extensive.
“We have had people get shot at, in domestic violence situations, we have people forget a calculator, or be short on groceries, and we have small Entergy grant helps with a Rouses card,” Sherman continued.
Hospitality management another reason why Delgado Community college is step closer to unstoppable.
