NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – They haven’t faced each other in over a decade, but Thursday night opponents Jesuit and Warren Easton certainly know each other.

“They’re a really disciplined football team. They’re tough. They play hard, and they execute really,” said Warren Easton football coach Tony Hull.

“They’re an explosive football, team. they’re very well coached. They’re extremely talented. I think it’ll be a great test for us,” said Jesuit football coach Mark Songy.

The defending state division one champions lost key players from last season.

So they have a lot of fresh faces, including quarterback Peter Hontas.

Coach Mark Songy hopes his team will continue progressing in their approach.

“I hope Peter continues to gain consistency. We saw a great consistent quarterback in him last week. Just like all of the other young players we have right now, there’s a growing up period. It takes a little time. Unfortunately, we have to grow up in a hurry,” he said.

In a hurry because Thursday night they’ll take on the Class 4A runner-up Warren Easton.

Coach Tony Hull was pleased on the defensive side of the ball against their Jamboree win of Clark, but they’ve been working to fix mistakes offensively.

“Offensively, we have some things we have to fix, and I know this sounds crazy going forward on points, but we turned the ball over too much, and we had too many mental breakdowns. We have to fix those,” he said.

Both teams are ready to come right out of the blocks and execute for this non-district game.
