NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – He was a Nebraska commit, until the Huskers fired head coach Bo Pelini.

Then, Newman running back Kendall Bussey looked east and announced his commitment to the University of Tennessee.

“I talked to both coaches the night before; my mind and my heart were everywhere. Like I said it was a coin flip, but I grew up loving Tennessee,” Bussey said. “Not many people get to play at their dream school. That was the deciding factor.”

Bussey said he liked Tennessee from the moment he stepped on campus to compete in a track meet at age 12.

This season, Bussey battled a knee injury, but when healthy, he was very good.

His 2014 season included a 5 touchdown performance in a win over Riverdale.

Kendall Bussey of Isidore Newman school is this week`s New Orleans Voodoo Athlete of the Week.
