Jabbar Juluke and Councilman Oliver Thomas hold inaugural football camp

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Florida assistant coach Jabbar Juluke and Councilman Oliver Thomas held their inaugural middle school football camp Saturday at Joe Brown Park.

The camp was made possible by the partnership between the Jabbar Juluke C.O.A.C.H. Foundation and the Eight Eighteen Agency.

The next generation of New Orleans’ student-athletes were treated to football drills from Juluke and area football coaches.

The camp also provided an educational workshop for parents to learn about eligibility, student-athlete marketing, health and more.

Here are the interviews with Jabbar Juluke and Councilman Oliver Thomas:

“The most important thing is academics. We want to make sure that you are doing what you’re supposed to do academically so that you can have an opportunity to play on the next level if that’s for you. Education is the most important thing that we can teach our young people to do. Also, to have some discipline, some structure in their lives, right? So, we want to create better for citizens, right? We want to have better citizens, better husbands, better fathers, so that our society and our community could be better as it moves forward. As far as athletics-wise, hardworking, right? Have good fundamentals and techniques. I think that we have some really good high school coaches, even on the playground level up to high school. So we want to make sure that these young men are continuing to develop on a consistent basis,” said Florida running backs coach Jabbar Juluke.

Jabbar Juluke spent nine years as head coach of the Edna Karr football program. He led the Cougars to seven district titles, two state runner-up finishes and a Class 4A state championship in 2012.

Coach Juluke was an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech, LSU and Louisiana before joining Billy Napier’s staff in Gainesville.
