MINNEAPOLIS (KLFY) — Lafayette gymnast Allaksei Shostak has qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Shostak was selected to represent the United States in men’s Trampoline Gymnastics at the 2024 USA Gymnastics Trampoline and Tumbling National Championships held in Minneapolis.
His teammate and two-time Olympian Nicole Ahsinger was also selected as the alternate for the Women’s Trampoline Gymnastics Team at the Paris games.
Shostak attended Lafayette High School (Class of 2013) and the University of Louisiana Lafayette, and now lives in Youngsville. His father Aliaksandr is a two-time Olympian in Artistic Gymnastics, representing the country of Belarus in 1996 and 2000.
According to USA Gymnnastics, Shostak won the spot in dramatic fashion, scoring a season-high 58.860 on his final routine Tuesday night to jump up from third to first in the rankings. This will be his second Olympic Games, after competing in 2020 in Tokyo, where he placed 13th in qualifications.
