NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University rookies Bennett Lee and Chase Engelhard were each selected to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America team on Wednesday after both individuals posted breakout 2021 campaigns for the Green Wave.

Lee and Engelhard became the 25th and 26th players in program history to earn freshman All-American honors since 1984. In addition, Tulane has now placed two players on the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America team in two of the last three seasons.

Lee earned the honor after he closed the 2021 regular season as the team leader in batting average (.440) and slugging percentage (.600). In 34 games, Lee also collected four home runs, 28 RBI and posted an incredible .527 on-base percentage.

In addition, Lee was selected to the All-AAC First Team, was tabbed as the league’s Newcomer Position Player of the Year and was named as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.

Engelhard was selected to the team after he established himself as one of the more consistent players on the squad, making starts in 53 of the Green Wave’s 55 games. He also posted a .299 batting average and led the team in home runs (9) and RBI (52).
