Meeting Saints’ Derek Carr is on the wish list of 13-year-old boy with rare cancer

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Filling a wish list of memories — that’s what a 13-year-old boy with cancer from Colorado is hoping for. One item on his bucket list is to meet New Orleans Saints Quarterback Derek Carr.

13-year-old Davion Miles made a bucket list of wishes as a way to make memories.

“I think it’s important to make memories and make the most of the time we have. Although Davion is sick, we don’t want to live in the ‘Davion has cancer’ energy. We want to keep that energy positive,” Miles’ mother, Bianca Bean said.

Miles was diagnosed with a rare cancer, but he’s not letting that define him. He wants to define his life.

“Looking back, when I have dark times, I want to remember actually having a good life at some point,” he said.

His prescription for healing is his bucket list, which includes visiting Japan, finding the best tasting chili dog and meeting Carr.

Although Miles lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he says he wants to meet Carr because he’s been a fan of Carr since his Raiders days.

“I’ve been knowing him on the team for years and that’s why I like him,” he said.

Miles understands the importance of everyday being a gift and fighting to win.

“I’ll be way happier than I am now, and I appreciate the effort to actually see me. It would make my day,” he said.

If given the chance, he wants to get a glimpse at the man behind the gridiron.

“I want to ask, ‘how’s life outside of it?’,” he said.

“He’s one of the best players in the NFL and because of that, I’d be really excited to see him,” he said.

In the game of life, Miles’ bucket list is well-played.

Miles is hoping people will share his story on social media, so there’s a better chance Derek Carr hears about it.
