ST. LOUIS, Mo. (WGNO) – Five players for the St. Louis Rams protested the Ferguson, Missouri shooting that’s sparked outrage around the country, by making the “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture before the game.
The gesture has grown out of unrest in nearby Ferguson, over the shooting death of unarmed teen Michael Brown, by former police officer Darren Wilson.
The Rams organization and coach said they didn’t know about the plan ahead of time.
The St. Louis Police Union said the protest was inappropriate, calling for the players to apologize and be disciplined by the league.
A NFL spokesman told CNN Monday that the players will not be disciplined.
