NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Thursday, safety Tyrann Mathieu and the New Orleans Saints agreed to a new two-year contract that would lower the team’s cap hit for the 2024 season and keep the St. Aug product in New Orleans another year.

The news was first reported by Nick Underhill.

Mathieu signed a three-year, $28.2 million deal with the New Orleans Saints in May of 2022. He was set to count $12 million against the cap in the 2024 season.

His new deal, reportedly worth $12 million will lower that hit to $5.5 million for the upcoming league year.

In two years with the Saints, Mathieu has played in all 34 games. He’s recorded 166 tackles and 7 interceptions during that span.
