The PGA Tour's Florida swing concluded this week in Tampa with the annual Valspar Championship. It offered an $8.7 million purse, with $1,566,000 million to the winner.
Viktor Hovland is taking home the big check, surging to the win Sunday with three late birdies to overtake Justin Thomas. The Norwegian won the FedEx Cup in 2023 but failed to win last year and had been searching for his game again this year, coming into the Valspar off three straight missed cuts including a first-round 80 at the Players Championship. Just goes to show that you never know in this game.
Hovland was already in the Masters by virtue of his third-place finish at the 2024 PGA Championship (he missed the cut at all the other majors) but now will go to Augusta knowing his game is back.
