NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Patrick Jenkins couldn’t have scripted a better homecoming than the one he’s had at Tulane.

In two years with the Green Wave, Jenkins has seed 23 wins, including a conference and Cotton Bowl title. He amassed 73 tackles, 19.5 For loss, and 7.5 Sacks.

“Best two years of my life,” said Tulane defensive lineman Patrick Jenkins.

Now, the former John Ehret standout has emerged in spring practice as the leader of a defensive line that will feature several new faces in 2024.

“I’m just trying to keep the standard that the guys before me left. I know that they left the standard and I’ve got to uphold that and make sure everybody is just holding themselves accountable and doing their jobs,” said Jenkins.

A role that Jenkins has embraced, leading by example, with a drive to be a dominant force for Tulane first-year head coach Jon Sumrall.

“The most impressive thing is the extra work he does on his own. He doesn’t know that I catch this, but I may be walking by and he’ll be out on Mintz Field just doing something by himself. Little things to get better. I’ll look out in the stadium, he’ll be doing some drill work on his own. By himself, with nobody around. Guys that do that are usually pretty good players. Pat’s got great talent and he’s a really hard worker. When you combine both of those things, you’ve got a special player,” said Tulane head football coach Jon Sumrall.

Tulane returns to spring practice, Tuesday April 2nd. You can catch a glimpse of Jenkins and the defensive front in the spring game, set for April 13th.
