Teddy’s ready: Bridgewater to start for Saints Sunday vs Panthers

The Saints have clinched the number one seed in the NFC, but there will still be drama at the Superdome Sunday.

Teddy Bridgewater, acquired in a preseason trade with the New York Jets, will start for the Saints at quarterback in the regular season finale against the Carolina Panthers. If Drew Brees does not play, he will finish the season 8 yards shy of 4,000 passing yards, a mark he has reached for the last 12 seasons.

Saints head coach Sean Payton made the announcement that Bridgewater would start at his Friday press briefing.

Brees has started every game for the Saints since week 3 at Carolina, when he missed that game with a shoulder injury.

Bridgewater has not started since the end of the 2015 season for Minnesota. He was voted to the Pro Bowl that year. But in August of 2016, Bridgewater suffered a severe knee injury.

The Saints can set a franchise record with their 14th regular season win Sunday. Kickoff is noon.

The Saints next game will be January 12th or 13th in the NFC Divisional round. All Saints playoff games will be played at the Superdome.
