NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Former LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, Jayden Daniels, was celebrated Thursday as the winner of the 2023 Manning Award, presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
The award is given to the top quarterback in all of college football that honors “the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.” It’s the only quarterback award that takes into consideration candidate’s postseason-bowl performances.
Daniels received the award after a stellar season at LSU where he amassed 3,812 yards passing with 40 touchdowns. He led all quarterbacks in the country with 1,134 rushing yards and 10 rushing rouchdowns.
According to the Allstate Sugar Bowl, Daniels is the fifth straight quarterback from the SEC to win the honor, and the third winner from LSU.
Daniels is projected to be a top-five pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
The draft runs April 25th through the 27th and you can catch all of the action on WGNO and ABC affiliates.
