NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The spirit of the New Orleans VooDoo Arena Football Team isn’t broken despite having their fair share of disappointments this season.
“Through all of the losses and tough times, everyone has stuck together, we’ve really come together as a family,” said Quarterback Adam Kennedy.
They’ve only won two games and now they just found out the League is taking over.
“It’s just unfortunate for everybody, mostly for the city of New Orleans, and the fans, it’s a great place. Also, really for our staff. That’s probably the most disappointing thing,” said VooDoo Head Coach Dean Cokinos.
Last week, VooDoo staff members were dismissed. But they’re now working on a week-to-week contract to finish the season.
“We’ve been in handcuffs, extremely handcuffed, both in the front office and on the field, and some things we weren’t allowed to do. But, we’ve worked through it the best we’ve been able to. I think right now we’re very thankful for the League to come in and stabilize this thing going forward,” said Coach Cokinos.
Although the League is taking over the VooDoo, players are shutting down distractions. Their main focus is winning the next four games.
“With only four games left, we’ve obviously had a rough season, so guys want to end it well. Especially if this team’s folding, that means trying to play and grab contracts for other teams. So there’s a lot of energy, there’s a lot to play for. But, like I said, hopefully, we’re back here next year,” said Kennedy.
“It’s been a hard year off the field, but the guys are playing hard, and they’re playing a lot better in sports, and really starting to come together. So, if we play at a high level, we have the opportunity to win four games,” said Coach Cokinos.
Despite a franchise low of around 4,000 fans per game at home, they’ll look to see the city of New Orleans cheer them on Saturday during their last home game this season.
