FORT WAYNE, Ind. — It’s a problem an animal shelter in Fort Wayne, Indiana is glad to have. The shelter is completely out of adoptable pets after a Black Friday special.
“It’s actually very exciting,” Jodi Hamilton from Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control said. “I know that people waiting to visit our dogs this morning were very disappointed, but it was such an exciting thing for us because it’s so rare that we have adopted all of the dogs that we had available for adoption. They’ve all gone home. It’s so beautiful and wonderful for all of us to see that happen.”
Pets were just $10 during the sale. And according to Hamilton, the sale was very popular.
“It brought out people in droves. Hundreds of people came by that day and we adopted all of our available pets that day.”
Between the crowds, people adopted about 30 pets, emptying the Kennels at the Fort Wayne Animal Care shelter.
Today workers are celebrating and using today to take it all in. But their work is not finished.
“The majority of the time, the kennels are full. So this is kind of a really fun moment for all of us to celebrate and kind of stop and take a deep breath and say ‘wow, this is why we’re here,” Hamilton said.
When animals are available, puppy adoptions cost $100, dogs up to 4 years old are $85, and dogs 5 and older carry a $25 fee.
The shelter lets customers name their own price for cats.
