NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Don’t get used to the warmer conditions Thursday as another round of arctic air will be moving in. This one won’t quite be to the level of cold as what we saw earlier this week, but will still bring the chance for a hard freeze for part of the area. First off look out for fog through early Friday morning with leftover moisture ahead of the drier air moving in.

A hard freeze watch is in effect for Friday night to Saturday morning for the northern half of our area. This is where we expect to see temperatures down into the low 20s for several hours. Once again you will need to cover pipes and faucets along with any sensitive plants.

The southern half of the area is under a freeze watch for the same time frame. These are areas that will see upper 20s to low 30s. So while not a hard freeze, it will still be cold enough to cause damage to plants. Remember to protect the pets as well.

Cooler weather starts to filter back in Friday with highs in the 50s. After that the next round of arctic air moves in. Highs over the weekend will only reach the mid to upper 40s.

Expect warmer but wetter weather through much of next week.
