NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Tropical Storm Danny was upgraded to a hurricane Thursday morning after an impressive 12 hours of strengthening. The initial wind speed was set at 75 mph.

Danny is a very small and compact storm, which means that sudden fluctuations in intensity both up or down are possible over the next couple of days.

The current forecast from the hurricane center moves Danny near Puerto Rico by Tuesday as a tropical storm. Right now the storm is not a threat to the northern Gulf of Mexico, and most likely will not maintain hurricane strength. Stay with WGNO for the latest on the storm.
