NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — After a foggy start Thursday morning, another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms is moving across the area through the afternoon.
Fog and scattered showers have been around, so please maintain caution on the roads. A Dense Fog Advisory was issued until 9AM. As the fog slowly cleared out, rain coverage and intensity has increased. This cluster of thunderstorms will continue moving through in the afternoon.
There is a low-end potential for severe weather with most of the area under a Level 1 out of 5 threat, according to the Storm Prediction Center. The main threats in any strong or severe storms that develop will be heavy downpours and gusty winds, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
Around 2 to 4 inches of rainfall can be expected over the next day or two. Some locations may see higher totals, especially in areas where storms are slow-moving.
There is a Level 2 flood threat for South Louisiana and South Mississippi and a Flood Watch is in effect through at least Thursday afternoon.
Some more wet weather is possible as our next cold front approaches on Saturday. Once the front clears, drier conditions are in the forecast as temperatures drop back into the 50s and 60s for highs and 30s and 40s for lows.
