NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) —Another hot and humid weekend is ahead for the northern Gulf Coast, with the chance for a few storms each afternoon.

Tonight will remain warm and humid, with lows around 80 degrees. As we head into the weekend, the weather will become even hotter. On Saturday, temperatures will climb into the lower 90s, but it will feel even hotter due to the high humidity, with heat index values reaching up to 112°F.

There’s a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, with a heat index value that could hit 113°F.

The National Weather Service has highlighted that the main concern for the coming week will be the intense heat. Starting Saturday, many areas could see daily high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, with nighttime lows barely dropping below 80°F. This means little relief from the heat, even overnight.

Heat advisories are likely to be in effect for much of the area, and there is potential for an Excessive Heat Warning early next week.

Looking ahead to next week, the heat wave is expected to continue. Daily highs will remain in the lower 90s with heat index values consistently reaching up to 110°F. There’s also a chance of showers and thunderstorms each afternoon, providing some temporary relief from the heat but also bringing the risk of localized flooding.

The NWS says residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and keep an eye on vulnerable populations such as the elderly and young children.
