Heat building next few days for New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Lower rain chances and higher temperatures are in the forecast for the next couple of days along the northern Gulf Coast.

With drier air and less cloud cover, temperatures tomorrow will increase by a couple of degrees compared to the last few days. Heat index values are expected to stay between 100 and 107°F, just below the advisory threshold of 108°F.

High pressure will continue to move westward through midweek, bringing a heat wave to the area. High temperatures will climb well into the 90s, with heat index values potentially reaching 105 to 110°F on Sunday, and even higher on Monday. This may lead to Heat Advisories being issued for parts of the region.

Starting Tuesday, moisture levels will increase, making scattered thunderstorms more likely. These storms should help cool temperatures a bit, but heat index values will still be high, especially early in the week.
