NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A hot one on the way today! Temperatures will climb into the low 90s for most of the area outside of coastal spots. Look for heat index values around 100 with a southwest breeze around 10-15. It will be very muggy.
A cluster of storms will develop in eastern Texas later today and move east through tonight. At the moment it looks like the bulk of that stays north of our area in central MS. Anything that does dip down into our northern spots would have a severe weather threat with strong wind gust potential, so have a way to get warnings just in case they are issued for your area.
We are waiting for a cold front on Friday which will bring in some lower humidity and cooler air by the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will feel much nicer. Enjoy it though because the humidity starts to move back in later Sunday into Monday.
It looks like more active weather develops early next week so look for better rain chances by Monday as well. It’s a little early to tell how much rain we will see but there is the potential for several waves of rain through at least the first half of the week. That will help to hold temperatures down across the area.
